Mumshine Meetups – Real Connection for Mums Navigating Neurodiversity

Come as you are. Pay what you can.
Find your village of mamas who get it.

When we feel lost or like we’re failing, it’s easy to think we’re the only one. That everyone else has it all together — and we’re somehow missing the manual. But guess what? You’re not broken, and you’re definitely not alone.

Mumshine Meetups are facilitated online gatherings where you can meet neurodivergent mums — and mums raising neurodivergent kids — can come together to connect, reflect, grow and shine. Whether you’re newly diagnosed, deep in the parenting trenches, or craving connection with people who get it, you’re welcome here. Join a meetup now.

These aren’t therapy sessions. They’re not about fixing you. They’re about meeting you where you are as you meet other people. Each neuroaffirming meetup includes a lightly guided session with a theme chosen by the group, private discussions in your breakout groups, and practical tools to take with you. You can speak or just listen — either way, you belong.

Meetups run for 60 minutes, are held online, and are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis. Free is absolutely fine. If it’s been a while since you felt truly seen, this might be the gentle reset you’ve been looking for. Sessions have been designed to be neuroaffimring, safe, supportive and interactive.

Meetups are designed to be safe, accessible, neuroaffirming and fun

When you join a meetup you will be asked a couple of questions about you (e.g. diagnosis, communication preferences and desired level for engagement using the neurodivergent traffic light system). You don't have to answer, but this info will help me match you to other mums for the small break out groups - who have similar needs and expectations. There will also be a small number of rules we ask attendees to agree to.

  • 2 weeks before the meetup I will share a poll - asking members to vote on what topic for the meet

  • 1 week before I will share a board - so you can do some prework if you want and know what will be covered

  • During the meeting there will be:

    • A welcome and ground rules and tech check for everyone (about 5 mins).

    • Learn and grow - A 10 minute interactive exercise we do together

    • Breakout trios (get allocated to a small group of you and 2 other mums and spend 15 minutes together with some guided prompts if you want)
Breakout trios encore - same structure, different trios

    • Q&A  time (10 minutes)

  • First and foremost sessions are neuroaffirming:

    • Yes you can have your camera off

    • Yes you can go for a walk or move around during session

    • Yes you can type instead of talk

    • Yes you can ask questions

    • Yes you can eat and drink

    • Yes you can stim

    • Yes bring your spins!

  • After session any outputs will be shared with the group

Online groups connecting neurodiverse mamas and mothers of neurodiverse kids

By having a common topic, you know you are coming together with other mums that 'get it'.

Meetup for learning and connection
while raising neurodiverse kids

Every mum's journey is different and there is no easy ride. Raising neurodiverse kids can present it's own set of highs and lows which can be hard to understand for people that have not experienced it. We love our kids and at the same time are exhausted by the daily challenges of raising them in a world that is not designed to support their needs. Meet other mums that 'get it'.

This meetup will look at this experience and the emotions that come with it, learning different tools and techniques to help you feel more confident, content and capable in your mothering journey. Whilst it is not therapy, or a replacement for it, by learning together and connecting - we feel less alone and more in control. Each session there will be a different topic or theme and a chance to ask questions and learn from each other. Topics will be influenced by the group and could include:

  • Understanding the diagnosis deficit trap

  • Fears and doubts

  • Dealing with judgement

  • Managing mum guilt

  • Keeping calm when advocating

  • Neuroaffirming language and stories

  • The concept of co-care

  • Mood managament

  • Reducing cognitive load

Neurodiverse mothering

Neurodivergent mums - unmasking and connecting

A neurodivergent mum navigating a rock maze - a metaphor for her neuroidentity

Our neurodiversity is part of who we are, not something we 'have'.
It is how our brain works and shapes how we interpret and interact with the world. Our beautiful brains bring amazing strengths and unique qualities but also some challenges which make navigating the demands of modern motherhood a little more challenging.

This group will explore our neurotypes in all their glory. We will nurture our minds and each other as we peel back the mask and meet other mums in the village. In this group we will focus on learning more about ourselves and each other. We will also focus on practical strategies and tools, that you can take away from session and apply through your week. Each session there will be a different topic or theme and a chance to ask questions and learn from each other. Topics will be influenced by the group and could include:

  • Late diagnosis

  • Building a neuroaffirming self identity

  • Mindfulness for neurodiverse brains

  • Accepting our differences

  • Advocating for our needs

  • People pleasing

  • Mum guilt for neurodivergent mums

  • Setting and maintaining boundaries

  • Managing cognitive load and reducing executive functioning demands

  • Big feelings and managing overwhelm

  • Burnout prevention

  • Psychological safety for unmasking

benefits of online learning and connection for mums raising neurodiverse kids and neurodivergent mamas

Online sessions are not for everyone and that is OK. But before you click close, know not all online experiences are created equal. I used to offer both online and in person but changed to online due to overwhelming client feedback.
I now specialise in online only. It is not a second rate experience at Mumshine, I focus all my efforts on making it better than being there in person.

Clients love online , because:

  • Sessions are easier to fit into the day and can even be done on lunch break when working from home.

  • Clients are in their own sensory environment, making it easier to relax and regulate.

  • Clients love having pets with them and patting them during sessions.

  • There is less executive functioning load and time/planning pressure with no commute.

  • No busy waiting rooms and crowds which can feel overwhelming, especially when we are vulnerable.

  • You can move your body in session and walk around your house or garden if you like.

  • Online boards allow space for sharing information and a place for clients to draw.

  • Clients can type rather than talk to express themselves as they like.

  • You can share your world with me, if you choose to.

Meet your facilitator: passionate about neurodiversity

Hi, I am Freya. I am a tertiary qualified counsellor, a life coach, a mum, a business owner and also a late diagnosed AuDHDer (in no particular order). I am passionate about neuroaffirming care and working with our brains and strengths, rather than against them. In my lived experience as someone seeking therapy, and also as someone providing it - I have experienced he difference it makes when your therapist that 'get's it' and supports you as a whole person.

As a passion area of mine I spend every moment I can learning about all things psychology, counselling and neurodiversity. I am a member of the Australian Counselling Association (member ID 25085) and have completed a range of courses to constantly evolve my practice. I love listening to neurodiversity and psychology podcasts, consuming books and engaging with the fantastic resources available, created by people within our neurodiverse community. Some courses include:

  • Graduate Diploma of Counselling - University of Canberra

  • Autism and Mental Health - Curtin Uni

  • Autism and Neurodiversity: Building Your Child's Strengths - Curtin Uni

  • ADHD Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) Certification Course: Strength-based Interventions to Thrive with ADHD from Childhood to Adulthood - Pesci

  • Diploma of counselling - AIPC

  • Advanced Study Major, Counselling clients with addictions - AIPC

  • Advanced Study Major - Child development & effective parenting - AIPC

  • Advanced Study Major, Abuse Counselling - AIPC

  • Life Coaching Certification, individuals & groups - The transformation academy

Prior to counselling I had a high powered corporate career leading large teams and projects. As part of this I gained my Masters of Business Administration, A Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and various certifications in project management across different methodologies. When working with clients I draw on all of these skills and lived experiences to find the right tool for the client, especially when working on balancing the emotional and practical needs of being a mum.

I offer a limited number of one-on-one online appointments each week in addition to dedicated groups, short courses and free resources. My aim is to meet and support mum's where they are at.

Not sure what you need? That's OK - I am here to help. You can reach out via email with all your questions
or book a free, no obligation discovery call via the links below:

The mumshine Logo is of the word mumshine with a graphical interpretation of a sun behind it. The sun is made up of hand drawn, concentric circles starting at a dark peach colour in the middle to an outer layer which is light yellow. It is warm and welcoming.
