What the Groups are (and aren't)

Transparency Matters — so here’s a clear picture of what you can expect.

Support groups are not a therapeutic intervention. There is no pressure to speak.

We don't do the deep work here. We don't have individual goals.

This is about connection, learning and peer support.

It IS...

  • Neuroaffirming - because support should work with our brains.

  • Practical - because tools only help when they work in real life.

  • Simple - because you have enough on.

  • Guided - because you shouldn’t have to figure things out alone.

  • Validating - because your experiences are valid & deserve kindness.

  • Supported - because recovery is easier when the load is shared.

  • Sustainable - because progress comes from small steps that stick.

  • Repeatable - because capacity keeps growing.

It is NOT:

  • Counselling- because deep work takes time.

  • Pressured - you choose how and when to participate.

  • Judgemental - because there is no “right way” to be.

  • Fix-oriented - because you are not a problem to correct.

  • Productivity-driven - because this isn’t about doing more.

  • Jargon heavy - because clear words matter.

  • Performance-based - because you don’t need another place to mask, impress, or explain.

If you feel you need deeper support - consider individual counselling.
Groups will be waiting when you are ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I join and realise it isn’t the right fit for me?

You won’t be trapped or pressured.

After the first group session, if you feel the program isn’t right for you, you’re welcome to let me know within 24 hours and I’ll refund your enrolment (less the cost of that session). No guilt. No awkward conversations. Just honesty and care — for both of us.

What if I fall behind?

You can’t! There is no pace or pressure. There are no tests or exams.

Whilst there are weekly themes - these are guides for group discussion. You don't need to complete the video and the worksheet to join. They are designed to provide colour and depth for those that need it - not replace the session.

When does the program start and when are calls?

Group availability can be seen in Halaxy as new groups will be added when existing ones are filled. Online calls last for 60 minutes. I can provide a letter of attendance to employers as well to support in getting time off, flexibility with break times or accessing personal leave to attend (this will be dependent on your employers policy).

Will I get enough time focused on me in the group?

Yes. The group is limited to 6 places only. Once the cohort begins, nobody else can join so you get to connect meaningfully with other members.

The group is big enough that you feel connected and not alone. It is small enough that you still get individual attention.

What if group spaces feel scary or overwhelming?

I get it - group spaces can be tricky if they are not well managed. For many people attending this is their first time in a group of other neurodivergent people and it feels different and I run it differently. Neurotypical social and communication norms - do not apply here.

You will never be pushed to share, speak, or turn your camera on. You can move, stim, lie on the floor, sit in the dark or join while exercising. You do what feels right for your body.

Spoken words are only one form of communication. We use chats, GIFs, pictures, memes, drawings and hand signals to communicate and express ourselves in the easiest way possible. We use AI to lighten the communication load (if we want) and for many listening quietly feels best.

In our first group we will craft some group guidelines on how we will treat each other, and ourselves, so there are guardrails we all agree on. You set the pace — I protect the safety.

If this still does not feel comfortable for you, then book a discovery call for individual sessions. We can work through the content one on one (individual cost is $1360+GST)

What if I get emotional in group?

Tears, awkward pauses, going blank — all of that is welcome here.

You won’t be spotlighted or rushed through feelings. You can take space, mute, or step away if needed. I hold the container so the room remains steady and safe.

This is not a therapy space for deep work - it is a support group but it is facilitated by a mental health professional. Not a coach. If I recognise you struggling in groups, I will check in to see if you are OK and talk about some options to support your mental health more deeply (like one on one counselling which can be done alongside support groups).

You’re not just allowed to be human here - you are supported in being human too.

What if I can’t attend every session?

The truth is - we will never know until we try. The best thing to do is try and take it one day at a time or follow the hyperfixation where it takes you.

If you are unable to attend for a week, you will still get access to the video and worksheet. Sessions are not refundable as the group is closed and we are holding the place for you.

I don't have a formal diagnosis can I still join?

Of course. You are welcome here.

Did you know most neurodivergent people are undiagnosed? It is emotionally draining, time consuming and expensive. You do not need a diagnosis to know who you are,

My job is to believe and support you.

What if I can't wait? I need help now.

Support groups are not a replacement for therapy. If you feel you need support now, please book a free introductory call and we can discuss individual counselling.

If you are in crisis - please call lifeline on 13 11 14 or 000 as Mumshine is not a crisis service - and when you are feeling safe and steady, we can start.

What if I already have a therapist?

That’s absolutely fine.

Support groups can sit gently alongside individual therapy. If helpful, I can provide a short summary of the group themes so your therapist can integrate the work into your existing support.

You’re not replacing care - you’re adding a different form of support.

I am not in Australia can I still access the groups?

A a licenced counsellor within Australia, I am only able to offer support to mums that live here.

If you are outside Australia, drop me an email at hello@mumshine.com.au. and I can offer the weekly videos and worksheets as a mini-course for you to do in your own time.

Are groups guaranteed to run?

For the group to be effective (and not awkward) the group needs a minimum of 3 participants.

If for whatever reason, you secure a space and enough participants have not joined a week before the scheduled start date, you will have the choice to:

1. Stay enrolled for a deferred start date (likely one month delay) or

2. Get a refund.

I want to grow my village

About Freya - the Neurodivergent Brain Behind Mumshine

Hi, I’m Freya — the neurodivergent brain and heart behind Mumshine. I created the support groups because we were not meant to do this alone. Structured peer support can be validating and deeply meaningful and a great way to feel less alone.

I wanted to make a space which brought together connection, emotional and practical support. A space where you can drop the mask and make progress - without burning through precious energy you don't have.

As a counsellor, coach, AuDHDer, mum, wife, and fur-parent (in no particular order!), I’m passionate about helping mums navigate neurodivergence with compassion, clarity, and ease. Mumshine is where I bring together the tools, warmth, and real-life honesty I wish I’d had along the way.

I create mumshine services with love and using proven strategies that have worked for me and my clients - so you get support that is both personal and practical.

All Mumshine content is lovingly created and remains © Mumshine Pty Ltd 2025. You’re welcome to use these ideas for your own personal growth and reflection, but please don’t copy, share, or reproduce them without permission. Thank you for honouring the care and work that goes into this space.

This program and its resources offer education, emotional support, and therapeutic guidance - but they are not a crisis service and they don’t replace individual medical, psychiatric, or emergency care. If you’re feeling unsafe, at risk, or in urgent distress, please reach out to your local emergency services (000) or a crisis support line straight away (like Lifeline 13 11 14). You deserve immediate care and support.
